Recently, Jamb declared that the UTME will now be a total of 180 questions for 2 hours. Each subject will now be 40 questions and English Language will be 60 questions.
It is the wish of all Jambites to be successful in their UTME and Crackerwap cares about those wishes. This is why we have composed an article that will be helpful to you all {Jambites}.
Tips for all Jambites - 2017
Below are tips and hints you should consider while preparing for your UTME.1. Study lots {if not all} of UTME past questions.
This is very very important if you want to succeed in the upcoming UTME. Every year, lots of questions are being repeated {either exactly or reformed}. They might reform the question by changing certain phrases. But if you truly went through past questions, you will be able to answer such questions.
2. Determine your first Subject.
You should bear in mind that you will have to tackle 4 different subjects {including English Language}. The first subject you start with determines how fast you can be and also has an effect on your Jamb score.
Using a science student as an example.
A science student who will take these subjects {English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics} in his UTME needs to be smart. He should be able to choose the right subject at the right time.
We advice such person to tackle those subjects in the below order.
a. Chemistry
b. Physics
c. Mathematics
d. English Language
Note: The above is just an advice. You should check the subject which seems easier than others and tackle them first. You can know those easier subjects when you pratice with past question.
This will save you lots of time to tackle those difficult subjects and will also increase your chances of succeeding.
3. Proper time management.
We mentioned earlier that UTME now lasts for 2 hours. This means 120 minutes {60 minutes = 1 hour} and 7,200 seconds {when converted to seconds}.
Using the above calculations, we can easily determine the maximum amount of seconds to spend per question {check the below calculations}.
Total questions = 180 questions.
Total time = 7,200 seconds.
# Maximum time per question = 7,200/180 {7,200 divided by 180}
= 40 seconds.
This means that you have a maximum of 40 seconds for each question. Do not spend much time in a particular question {Check the below point}.#
4. Tackling questions within a given time.
As we said earlier, it's 40 seconds per question. This means that you should not spend more than 40 seconds on a particular question.
In order to archieve this, we decided to share few simple hints {check below}.
#a. You should bypass all questions involving calculations {for science students}.
#b. You should attempt all questions that does not involve calculations first before attempting those that involves calculations.
#c. Answer only those you are sure of and bypass others.
#d. Return to those you bypassed earlier after completing all those you are sure of.
Doing the above will save you lots of time which you will use to tackle other questions involving calculations. After going through the above tips, you might consider reading the below 6 tips.
5. Believe in yourself
Don't believe any of those bloggers or friends who will promise to deliver all the answers to you. All they are after is your money and not your success.
6. Give yourself a goal.
Setting a specific goal/target will help improve the rate at which you study. Example: Set a goal to archieve 350+ in your UTME. This will help you to try and ensure you beat that 350+.
7. Be determined.
Setting a goal without being determined will lead to goal proposal. If you are not determined within you to archieve such goal, then bear in mind that you haven't set a goal. You only introduced a goal.
8. Remain focused.
In order to archieve a particular goal, it needs you to focus. Being focused means avoiding any form of distraction to come your way. At the initial stage of setting this goal, you might be determined and focused. But getting closer to the exam date, you seem to loose focus mainly because you are scared or do not believe in yourself.
9. Conquor your fear.
Fear they say 'is the only thing that kills a man'. If you are afraid of the UTME, then your chances of succeeding is low. You need to be fearless, but that does'nt mean that you shouldn't take the examination serious.
We advice you not to read a day before your exam date and also on your exam day. This will reduce fear and tension, and will also give your brain a nice rest {in order to remember all you have read easily}. You can go through all you have read on the second day before exam.
10. Pray to your God.
As the saying 'God help those who help themselves', after helping yourselfs with all of the above tips, you should hand over the rest to God.
Hardwork is the key to success but Prayer is the master key to success.
